Did you know that the Alentejo is one of the world’s best destinations for stargazing? In Torre de Palma, tucked away among the Alentejo plains, the sky is like a blanket that envelops us. Discover this special program over the weekend of August 14–16, featuring observation of the Perseid meteor shower!
Every year in August, Earth passes through a region of the Solar System filled with debris from Comet Swift-Tuttle. When this debris enters the atmosphere at average speeds of 59 km/s, it heats up to the point of becoming incandescent, creating the famous summer spectacle: the Perseid meteor shower, whose intensity and frequency peak during the week of August 10–15, reaching up to 100 meteors per hour.
In addition to the Perseids, which streak across the sky throughout the night, the summer sky also offers star-forming nebulae, clusters of young stars, stellar death nebulae, and, above all, our Milky Way.
Join us on August 14 to explore and discover everything the Alentejo sky has to offer through high-resolution telescopes and guided by a professional astronomer.
